Work as an intern teacher in a government or a private school in Sri Lanka and gain a valuable experience.

You will have the opportunity to work as an assistant teacher at a government or a private school in Kandy and gain an experience of teaching which will be valuable for your career in teaching. While experiencing the culture, traditions and lifestyles in the hill capital of this island, get a boost to your career in teaching and familiarise the unique educational settings in Sri Lanka.

You will be called upon to help teach drama, music and foreign languages depending on your field of specialization. You would also assist other teachers and staff and will create teaching plans, etc. You will receive a time table for your duration of internship once you are at the school.

You will be able to use your own teaching methods and techniques in your classes.

All the institutions are well managed and are supervised by officers from government and private institutions.

Trip Itinerary

Week 1- Introduction to Sri Lanka

Immerse yourself in the wonderful culture of Sri Lanka in this excellently organised introduction week in Kandy! Steeped in Buddhism, the area is captivating with its array of ancient temples and mysterious beliefs. As you uncover the secrets of the area, you will witness a superb performance of Kandyan dance and experience for yourself how rejuvenating an Ayurvedic massage is. Language lessons will enable you to interact more freely with the locals allowing you to truly experience the culture and lifestyle.

  • Your teaching schedule will depend on your field of specialisation. You will teach different classes and different age group students at the school.
  • You will also assist other teachers in creating lesson plans and teaching materials.
  • Evening classes will be scheduled depending on the requirements of the school.

This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

Trip Accommodation

Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka is a major tourist destination. About 115 km from Colombo at 465 meters above sea level. Famous for the Temple of the Tooth and many other temples the city could be called the cultural capital of the island. This bustling market town is rich in cultural diversity and has plenty to offer to the tourists from songs dances and handicrafts to ancient temples and adventure activities. Kandy was a royal capital and the last stronghold of the Kandyan kings against foreign powers, holding out against them for about 300 years. The two main Buddhist Chapters are based here and formed the last centre of independent Buddhist thought during colonial times.

Accommodation & Food

You will be accommodated in one of our centres which are located 2-4 kilometres away from Kandy centre. The accommodation holds 4-10 people per room on a single gender basis. Private rooms can be requested and are subject to availability, please contact us before hand if you would like a private room.

Food Arrangements
You will be provided with three meals a day on weekdays and two meals per day on weekends. The meals are a mix of Western and Sri Lankan food, consisting mainly of vegetarian dishes including rice and vegetables. You can also eat out at any of the local restaurants.

Facilities
Our house is located 2 kilometres away from the city centre, where you can find anything you might need.

The nearest ATM and supermarket are a 15 minute walk away from our accommodation.

Sights & Surroundings
The places to visit during your weekends or on your project holidays are the Royal Botanical Gardens, Knuckles mountain range, Udawatta kele sanctuary, Hortons plains national park and the railway museum.
