Trip Details

This project gives volunteers the opportunity to introduce disadvantaged children in Argentina to sports. Volunteers will spend their time in the country coaching and training these children in the country’s capital, Buenos Aires.

The children that you work with during the Sports Coach Volunteering project in Buenos Aires have had little or no access to sport or physical education and, on top of this and for a number of reasons, their parents are not able to provide as much attention as home as we would be used to.

For these reasons and several more, you will find the children you work with to be appreciative, willing and delighted to take part in the activities you organise. This is an incredible opportunity to work in an environment where your work is recognised, and where you know it makes a huge difference.

Volunteers on this project will work with children whose ages range from 6 to 17 – the work will take place during the afternoons, starting at 16:30 and normally running until 19:30. The activities you run will cover a range of sports, including: tennis, football, hockey, rugby and baseball.

Trip Itinerary

Sports Coaching Volunteers will take part in a full week of coaching from Monday to Friday, working each day between half 4 and half 7 in the evening.

Depending on which sport the volunteer is coaching, morning and weekends offer free time in which you are able to take part in various activities and excursions. This is not the case with football coaching, however.

Weekdays
Mornings are free, or volunteers can take Spanish Classes between 09:00 and 13:00.
13:30: Lunch
15:30: Depart accommodation to get to project location
16:10: Arrive at project location and prepare coaching session
17:00: Children start their sport session
19:30: Finish activity and go back to accommodation
20:15: Dinner and free time.

For football coaching volunteers, training starts at 08:30 an hour away from the accommodation and finishes at 11:30.

Evenings
Hockey volunteers might train during the evenings, but for the other volunteers this is usually free time, which can be spent relaxing at the accommodation, or else out and about in Buenos Aires and the surrounding areas.

*Please note: This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.*

Trip Country Info

Argentina

Argentina is located in the southern part of South America.  It is the second largest country in South America after Brazil, and is the eighth largest country in the world.  Altogether the country is divided into four regions – the Andes, the Pampas, the north and Patagonia, which covers the southern part of the country.  To the West, the towering Andes mountains create a natural 5,142km high border with Chile, and the eastern border of the country is the Atlantic Ocean.  To the east of the Andes, you will find the Pampas which is flat, fertile grassland.  This is the agricultural heartland of Argentina.  In the Northern region, the country shares borders with Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay.  Not forgetting the spectacular rainforests and Iguazu falls located in the North East region.  Located on the border with Brazil, this spectacular waterfall descends along a 2.7km front in a horse shoe shape.  There are so many sights to see.

You will find an abundance of wildlife; the North of Argentina is home to flamingos, toucans, turtles, tortoises an, and crocodiles and caimans too!  There are also many large cat species such as the cougar, jaguar and the ocelot.  If you visit the coast of Patagonia you will see elephant seals, fur seal, penguins and sea lions.  Swimming in the waters off the Atlantic coast there are sharks, orcas, dolphins and salmon.

Argentina offers a great variety of cultural activities, reflected in different artistic expressions such as theatre, painting, sculpture, music and literature. It also maintains the tradition of its typical dance and song, such as the Tango in Buenos Aires and folk traditions inland.  There really is something for everyone here.  Visit our experiences page to find out more about visiting this fantastic country, which you can enjoy whilst giving the locals something back, by taking on some voluntary work.
