Assist a local children’s home in Peru with your knowledge of physical therapy and help them improve their physical motor skills. These brave individuals, mostly children, come from a wide variety of backgrounds and you can make a big difference to them by assisting them in daily Physio sessions. Not only will it be an invaluable learning experience for you, you will help improve their coordination and fine motor skills!
Share your time and work with these special children at a Pervuvian children’s home in an effort to help them integrate into wider society. You will be providing daily Physical Therapy sessions as an intern at our Learning disabilities Centre in Cajamarca. This time in Peru will allow you to develop invaluable skills and help build independence of the individuals making them active members of the community!
The home is for young children (and a few adults) with physical and mental disabilities. You will be taking care of roughly 30 children as well as assisting the program staff with daily tasks. Many of these children have been raised in this home after losing their parents, and your care and attention will be well received by them!
Activities you can look forward to helping them with include Physical therapy sessions, educational lessons, and outdoor activity. There will be some time during the day where you will work individually or with a small group of children and follow the routine of a trained professional in your specific field. Here you will have the opportunity to learn and practice Physical Therapy under their guidance. The main goal of the organisation is to maximise what these children can do on their own, with the hope that one day they are able to live fulfilling lives!
Monday – Friday
Each day you will work between 4 and 5 hours at the home. Because the children attend school in the morning, the program will be based more in the afternoon. You’ll interact and assist the local staff in their various routines around the centre from around lunch till dinner time, and will especially be expected to contribute in their Physical Therapy sessions.
An accurate schedule of your working day will be given to you on your arrival at the location as it will depend on the needs of the home and the children. However, when you are not directly involved in assigned tasks, you will be expected to spend quality time interacting with the children.
***This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.***
