The school in Peru is on the few registered language schools in the country; it is also one of the only ones that offers hour-long lessons rather than the 45 minutes that are typical. The aim of this school and the classes there is to teach Spanish as quickly as possible.
The most popular options for the Spanish classes are either 20 hours a week, with maximum class sizes of just 6. Thanks to this format, you are guaranteed plenty of time and attention from your teacher. Additionally, these classes are designed and planned to be fun and interactive so that you can stay as engaged as possible in your new language.
As good lessons can at times be exhausting, there are coffee breaks in the morning where you refresh yourself before continuing. There is a pool nearby as well where you can relax and speak with your fellow classmates.
To improve the speed with which you learn Spanish, you will also have the opportunity to take part in free conversation classes in the afternoon; or you could join the tandem program to pair up with a local who wants to practice his or her English, German or French, for example. This way, you both get to practice the language you want to learn whilst forming bonds as well. This project is a great way to improve your language skills whilst experiencing the real Peruvian culture.
Your Spanish classes take place from Monday to Friday. There are 4 hours for class in the morning which, over the course of the week, amounts to 20 hours. If you choose to take the 30-hour option instead you will have an extra 2 hours each afternoon.
Every Friday morning will be spent on a city tour, in which you can choose to participate if you like. If you would prefer to stay at the school, then Spanish class will be provided to you as normal.
If this is your first week in Chiclayo then you will take the orientation seminar on Monday afternoon. If you have studied Spanish in the past, then you be required to take a placement exam in the morning to make sure that you are placed in the most appropriate class.
Monday to Friday
Yours days will follow a similar pattern from Monday to Friday. On Monday you will take a placement exam before starting your schedule.
From Tuesday onwards you will start with a Spanish class, which is followed by a break during which you can relax and eat. Your time in the afternoon will be spent in further Spanish classes. Each day, you will be scheduled between 08:30 and 18:00.
In the evenings you are free to spend time with your fellow students, and the project offers ample opportunity to explore the surrounding area and immerse yourself in the culture.
Free Time and Weekends
In addition to the Spanish classes, you will also be able to participate in other activities and events throughout the week. At the weekend you are free to spend your time as you please, with locals and coordinators always more than happy to make suggestions for activities that you can go and enjoy.
