Road Trip China

Project Overview

This road trip is an incredible journey where you will find yourself immersed in the charming and fascinating nature of Chinese culture.

The first week in Chengdu is the important step towards a great stay in a new country!

It is a fun filled week that is dedicated to getting introduced to China and some of its cultural aspects first hand. You will also get time to meet the local people, taste the local cuisine and get familiar with the Chinese custom. And you will get close to the amazing Panda bears!

You will then experience the incredible Kangding and its local Tibetan culture.

Kangding is is the largest city and capital of Ganzi Tibetan Prefecture. Situated in the western Sichuan Province, it has around 100,000 inhabitants.

Kangding is well-known throughout China for its popular Kangding Love Song. The place is regarded as where Tibetan tradition and culture really begins. It’s also the traffic hub of west Sichuan and the gateway to Tibet.

In Kangding we will visit Xinduqiao, known as the “Paradise of Photographers” it’s natural view is breathtaking. Next we will go to Tagong Grassland, where you can have of a peak of Tibet nomadic lifestyle, riding horses in the wild Grassland and drinking oil milk tea with the locals.

Your next destination is Zimeiyakou. Here you will watch the most famous sunset in China—Sunset on Golden Mountain, where the sun slowly goes down along the Gongga Snow mountain, you can immerse yourself in this golden spectacle of sunlight!

After experiencing the beauty of nature, we will move on to the Serthar Buddhist Institute, the biggest Buddhist Institute in the world. This area is still mythical to the public, but it’s also an area where you can get away from all the touristy sights and experience the real local culture.

After exploring these wonders in South-west China, it’s on to the Fengyan village of Guilin. During the week we spend here with the locals, you will gain an even greater understanding of the Chinese ways of doing things. Plus it is a fun-filled week where you can get to know China and its history.

You will have the time to interact with the villagers, taste the local cuisine and become familiar with the area’s Chinese customs. There are many opportunities to immerse yourself in the culture with visits to local villages, a Confucius temple, a Guangong temple, local fairs, and some amazing natural scenery sites.

Zhanjiang is the last stop of this four week journey, a city in a very special location. It is located in the Guangdong Province, faces the South China Sea in the east and the Qiongzhou strait in the south, with over 2000km of coastline and various harbors.

This last part of your trip will be more relaxing. You will wind down on the beaches, soaking in the sunshine and coastal life, with more free time to explore. You will visit the dolphin conservation center, help clean the area where dolphins live and also enjoy the traditional local arts. Zhanjiang is a must visit, if not just to indulge in this region’s famous fruits and heavenly seafood dishes.
