A wonderfully rewarding way to gain voluntary experience during your gap year! Spending time working on a project that aims to improve the living conditions of children in orphanages in Thailand, you will be contributing to construction and renovation efforts. Although the buildings are orphanages, some of the children are not orphans but are placed there because their parents do not have enough money to look after them. The orphanages primarily provide food and shelter for the children but also work to help the children develop as well rounded individuals. Additionally, many of the orphanages have integrated schools where children are taught at primary and secondary levels. Some of the classrooms may appear to be in a poor condition but you will be welcomed by happy, eager children. If possible, you may be asked to teach the children in English and other subjects such as hygiene and environmental issues which will help them in their studies.
Monday to Friday
Each day begins with breakfast before you head off to the orphanage. Once there, your coordinator will arrange all the participants into groups and allocate tasks. You will also be introduced to the school staff. While carrying out your given tasks, you will be working for approximately 4-5 hours per day with a midday break for lunch. Lunch will take place at a roadside restaurant near to the school. On your return to the accommodation, there will be possibilities for stops at the local town to pick up essential supplies.
