Take part in this rewarding project volunteering to improve the lives of children with disabilities. A wonderful way to spend time during your gap year, gaining experience and learning about the fascinating culture in Vietnam. If you have experience in this field of work it would be advantageous but it is not necessary as long as you have patience, understanding and an element of creativity. Working at a local children’s home in La Gi village, you will take an active role in caring for the children who spend their days here. Within the area, there are 2 care homes which each provide places for 25 children. The homes care for children between the ages of 5 and 20 who’s families are not able to provide day care for them. Their disabilities could include blindness, mental impairment and various other ailments. Your role will involve feeding, comforting them and playing games to encourage their social development. Children who are well enough attend local schools or take part in other organised activities, your work will focus on the children who remain at the care home. Through the activities you carry out with the children, you will have opportunities to develop their knowledge of English by teaching them words and phrases. In addition to your work with the children, you will take part in activities that benefit the running of the care home such as preparing food, cleaning and developing fundraising opportunities. Your work will make a huge difference to the children and will be greatly appreciated by the local staff. In return, you will be nurtured to develop your understanding of meeting the needs of children with additional learning needs, and be immersed in the lifestyle of the village.
Please Note: Projects start on a Monday, however you should arrive over the weekend on either Saturday or Sunday.
