By being involved with the kindergarten volunteering you can be sure that you will make a valid contribution to both the current occupants of Fengyan, as well as to its future generations. With a diverse and beautiful landscape in the midst of China’s Guanxi Province, Fengyan has incredible potential to be a shining example of environmentalism for nearby communities, whilst also standing out as a safe haven for children. You will be joined by other volunteers during your time and the group will be banded together in an important, memorable and noble journey.
During your time in Fengyan you will acquire a distinct taste for Chinese culture and tradition as you work side by side with the locals in the tasks and activities that form such an integral part of their lives.
The core of the Kindergarten program is to teach. Teaching is a valuable experience, both for you and for your pupils and it can have an incredible impact. By providing the local children essential experience in conversational English you will aid them in becoming truly bilingual, a quality that can lead to real benefits for them in the future years. Decent understanding of the English language makes a huge difference to children’s university and higher education prospects, and it also allows for increased involvement in the global community.
Prior knowledge or experience in the education sector is hugely useful for volunteers on this program, although it is not compulsory. All course material is provided for you, although the local program supervisors are always open to new suggestions that could improve the curriculum in terms of engagement, fun and efficiency. Your typical schedule includes a Monday to Friday week, although this depends on which other tasks you are involved in. If you are teaching, you will be on a standard schedule that includes three 45 minute lessons a day, with time provided during the day where you can observe other lessons and plan your activities.
Beyond this, the information needed will be provided to you be your program supervisor.
