Kindergarten Volunteer in Mozambique
Give local children the chance to practice English and improve their confidence through the kindergarten teaching program. In this life-changing program, you will spend your time in Mozambique teaching English, mathematics and life skills to 3-6-year-old local children. You’ll develop a true taste of Mozambican culture and an opportunity to understand the local culture, all the while helping out the young children of the local community and teaching them skills that will undoubtedly help them in later life.
Through songs, games, colouring, and drawing, as well as informal lessons, you will work with the eager young children and give them an opportunity to practice their English language and pronunciation, as well as learn about other cultures. Some of your time will be spent assisting the local teachers in tasks that are a part of the regular school schedule.
This is the kind of volunteer experience you will remember for a lifetime, and it will provide you with an insider’s glimpse into authentic Mozambique lifestyle and culture. Mozambique is a country with a 1,000km long coastline adjacent to the Indian Ocean in Southeastern Africa. It is bordered by South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
In 1500, the Portuguese established posts up and down the coast, starting with present day Ilha de Mozambique, where the Portuguese operated spice and slave routes from Mozambique up until 1891.
Following the end of World War 1, Portuguese investment in commercial, industrial, agricultural, educational, transportation, and health care infrastructure for the indigenous population started providing for better social and economic possibilities. This continued up to the country’s independence in 1975. The country is generally a low-lying plateau broken up by 25 rivers flowing into the Indian Ocean. The largest is the Zambezi, which provides access to central Africa. Mountain chains in the country’s interior form the backbone of the country.
Wildlife in the country’s national parks is attracting many visitors as it does in the neighbouring countries. Mozambique is known for its vibrant culture, a blend of African and Portuguese influences that translates into a fantastic music scene and excellent cuisine. There is something for everyone on offer here. Why not let yourself take it all in whilst taking part in one of our amazing volunteering experiences, which will help you develop personal skills that you will keep and use for the rest of your life.
