For a small country, Uganda has everything an adventurer could wish for. It has everything and more than its neighbouring countries do, including the famous “Big Five” must see animals of Africa. More than that, the country is home to the tallest mountain range and largest lake in Africa. Half the remaining mountain gorillas in the world reside in this country, making wildlife watching a unique experience!
Uganda is located in eastern Africa, west of Kenya, south of South Sudan, east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and north of Rwanda and Tanzania. It is in the heart of the Great Lakes region, and is surrounded by three of them, Lake Edward, Lake Albert, and Lake Victoria. Uganda is a very beautiful country, although life can be chaotic in the cities. Many people farm in rural areas and coffee is an important export.
Belonging to many ethnic groups, Ugandans speak over 30 different African languages. English and Swahili are the country’s official languages. Swahili is a useful communication link with the country’s Eastern neighbours of Kenya and Tanzania, where it’s also spoken.
Immerse yourself in the culture of the country while volunteering and helping others, taking on one of our range of projects. Get a deeper insight into the African way of life, whilst enhancing your own life skills at the same time.
