Have you ever wondered how good it would feel to help people who would truly benefit from your work? In joining this Construction project, you will be part of an initiative working together to improve the living conditions for local people by providing a workforce to carry out construction tasks. If you like getting your hands dirty and doing some real grafting, get your application in for a place on the project. You’ll be taking part in light construction activities which could include repairs and renovation within the local community in buildings that are identified as being in need of repair. The buildings could be any in the local area such as homes, schools, temples or clinics that are in poor conditions.
Although there is a local budget to maintain buildings, it is very small and often does not go very far in covering the costs of repairs or renovating. Similarly, local people earn very little which only covers the cost of their daily living, consequently there is no money left to maintain their properties. This is where the project steps in to lend a helping hand in the community. In providing materials for renovation work, repairs and light construction, and through the voluntary work of our teams of participants, the local community benefits from a higher standard of living, and the volunteers have a unique opportunity to interact with the locals, learning about their culture, customs and way of life.
With a project coordinator organising the engagement of workers with tasks, your days will be filled with the most urgent work as it arises. This could mean you will be painting, repairing furniture, building walls, installing toilets or other similar activities. The tasks allocated to you will be completely dependent on the local conditions and the needs at the time but your working day will be approximately 4-5 hours long.
Monday to Friday
The tasks you undertake will vary, however there will be a basic structure to each day. Your day will begin with a hearty breakfast to set you up for your day on site. Following this, you will have a daily briefing where your tasks will be allocated to you and immediately afterwards your work on site will begin. You’ll have a break for lunch before continuing with your allocated tasks in the afternoon. At the end of the day there will be time for evaluation where you can discuss your own contribution to the work and suggest ways forward for the project. Dinner will be served in the evening then you can enjoy some free time to relax and regenerate for the next day’s work.
