Trip Details

Is teamwork one of your strengths? On this project you will be tested as a team player while you volunteer to improve the living conditions for communities in Thailand. Using traditional Thai building methods, passed down through generations, houses are constructed out of clay. This method of building is ecologically friendly and, due to its insulating properties, is also cooling for the people to live in. Building houses in this way is increasing in popularity in Thailand because of their qualities and how fun they are to build.  Whether or not you have experience in construction work, you can assist on the project by preparing clay bricks or stamping clay foundations. While contributing to the development of a healthy environment and lifestyle, you will be developing invaluable skills for your own future.

Please Note: Projects start on a Monday, however you should arrive over the weekend on either Saturday or Sunday.

Trip Itinerary

Monday to Friday

The activities you carry out in relation to the construction will be varied as you will be placed where you can have the biggest impact and play an active role. Being instructed by trained, English speaking staff, you will be encouraged to use your hands and your feet while carrying out tasks which could include:

  • creating the clay materials using traditional stamping methods;
  • clay brick making;
  • brick laying;
  • plastering;

***Clay House Construction program cannot run on days of rain, we need the sun to dry the clay! On days we cannot run this program, expect to help out with construction at the Orphanage Effort program.***

** Please note: This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances. **

From trekking in the beautiful mountains of the north to enjoying the glorious beaches in the south and experiencing the hustle and bustle of the metropolis that is Bangkok, Thailand is certainly not a country that lacks variety.

Whilst it really is at the heart of Southeast Asia, bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia, its cultural identity remains very unique. As the only country in Southeast Asia to avoid European powers, the Thai are proud to refer to themselves as ‘The Land of the Free’ and many tourists might also know it as ‘The Land of Smiles’ due to its friendly people.
