Working with three orphanages in Vietnam, this project offers you the opportunity to make a difference to children’s lives while gaining invaluable voluntary experience. Giving you the opportunity to work with children from a wide age range, the primary orphanage cares for children under the age of 5, whereas the other two orphanages cater for children up to 18 years of age. All the children at the orphanages genuinely have no parents – some of them previously lived on the streets. Therefore, one of the main aims of the project, along with providing them a safe shelter, food and clothes, is to build the children’s confidence and to develop their social skills. Your tasks will vary in order to meet the needs of the children. For the younger age groups you will be required to feed, bathe and dress them, as well as entertain and educate them by playing games. With the older children, the care you give will involve helping with homework and helping them to develop social and life skills. In addition to caring for the children, you will also play an important part in helping them to develop their knowledge of English. By helping them develop a higher level of literacy in English, you will be contributing to their future success. As their current levels of English are very low, you will need to focus on the basics such as vocabulary, short phrases and basic conversation. However, the more interesting the method of teaching, the more effective the learning will be so be prepared to be creative.
Please Note: Projects start on a Monday, however you should arrive over the weekend on either Saturday or Sunday.
