Help out at a local children’s home in Peru and be a part of improving the lives of the physically and mentally disabled. This program is for those looking to assist this learning disability centre in a variety of ways. You will be part of daily therapy sessions, helping the local staff with disabled care, and interacting with these special children. After this program you are sure to gain a new appreciation for life and caring for others!
This time in Peru will allow you to develop invaluable skills and help build independence of the individuals making them active members of the community!
The home is for young children (and a few adults) with physical and mental disabilities. You will be taking care of roughly 30 children as well as assisting the program staff with daily tasks. Many of these children have been raised in this home after losing their parents, and your care and attention will be well received by them!
Activities you can look forward to helping them with include Therapy sessions, educational lessons, and outdoor activity. The main goal of the organisation is to maximise what these children can do on their own, with the hope that one day they are able to live fulfilling lives!
Monday – Friday
Each day you will work between 4 and 5 hours at the home. Because the children attend school in the morning, the program will be based more in the afternoon. You’ll interact and assist the local staff in their various routines around the centre from around lunch till dinner time, and will especially be expected to contribute in their Therapy sessions.
An accurate schedule of your working day will be given to you on your arrival at the location as it will depend on the needs of the home and the children. However, when you are not directly involved in assigned tasks, you will be expected to spend quality time interacting with the children.
***This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.***
