Spend a week immersing yourself in true Kenyan culture, where you’ll learn more about the lifestyle, history, and language of the country. During this program, you’ll get to visit museums and beautiful natural attractions, as well as indulge yourself in typical Kenyan cuisine through cooking classes, and improve your language skills with Swahili practice.
This is the perfect opportunity to familiarise yourself with the local surroundings before beginning another Kenya program, you will begin to truly experience and understand Kenya. You will get to sight-see around your new home, begin to interact with the local people and visit a number of natural wonders including the Great Rift Valley and the Abadere mountains.
Through cultural introductions, walking tours and language classes you will come out of this week having a new understanding and appreciation of this fascinating and untouched African country.
The week is jam packed full of cultural experiences and lessons, with the aim being to show you as much of the area as possible. You will experience cooking lessons, craft workshops and sightseeing tours around the area.
The day begins with breakfast, and then we will spend the morning in a cultural introduction session. We will break for lunch and then spend the afternoon walking around the village – visiting the markets as well as other useful locations such as the police station and hospital.
After breakfast you’ll spend the morning in a language class, getting up to speed on basic Swahili. After lunch, we will venture into Thika Town’s city center to point out the local markets, post office, Bank, ATMs and other points of interest. The evening will wrap up with a dinner in Thika.
Today’s itinerary is sight-seeing focused. After breakfast, we will head out to visit Bomas of Kenya, followed by lunch. In the afternoon we will take a trip to see the majestic Great Rift Valley and the Aberdare Mountains followed by dinner.
The morning begins, as always, with breakfast. Followed by a creative morning of bracelet making. After lunch we will spend some time introducing the Kenya projects, then you will try your hand at Kenyan cuisine with a cooking class before dinner.
In the morning after breakfast, we will head out to visit the projects and you will spend the entire day getting a chance to try your hand at helping out. We’ll break for lunch midway through, and wrap up the week with an evaluation session before dinner.
