This Construction Project in Samraong, Cambodia allows volunteers to get their hands dirty to help out a poor community. The main aim of this project is to help in the construction of a school for the poorer communities in the area, but volunteers may also help out on other constructions sites where more development is required.
This project offers volunteers an incredible opportunity to make a real impact on the future of the local population, whilst also allowing them to immerse themselves in a unique culture that is unlike anything they will be used to. The Cambodian people live in a way that is sure to have a lasting impression. Experience it on this project and feel yourself grow through exposure to a new way of life.
The other construction projects in the area that you may work on include house building and renovation, and even work on the local hospital. Whether you work on these tasks or exclusively at the school site depends on the needs of the local community at the time. Volunteers can always feel safe that their skills will be put to their best possible use at all times.
At the beginning of the working week you will have a meeting with our coordinator where you will find out what kind of work will be required during your time on the project.
There is a focus on light construction work and you will spend time helping to paint school buildings, making tables and chairs, constructing and renovating the playground, making pathways, building toilets and repairing school walls. You will also help to build new classrooms.
As mentioned, construction and renovation work sometimes takes place in other areas, depending on the need for it. Tools, equipment and instruction will be provided by experienced staff to all volunteers.
Volunteers are free after the construction week project. You can relax at your accommodation, enjoy a bicycle ride into town, expand your sightseeing, or visit the many sites in and around the Oddar Meanchey Province.
It is also possible for volunteers to take a taxi into Siem Reap for the weekend, where they can visit the world-famous Angkor Wat. Friendly staff are always on hand to make your choice easier, and the locals will be as much help as they can be too.
